First, I want to apologies for not being up-to-date with this blog last week, but I was sick with the flu and had to be nursed back to health by my mom at home in Clare, which equals no internet access! So here I go for next week (almost to spring break!)... 2) How is comprehension taught in Book Club?
3) How does knowledge of text structure facilitate comprehension?

Book clubs are great way for students and teachers to interact within the context of a piece of literature. Assigning different roles allows students to truly focus on one or two aspects of writing, which reduces the stress and complexity of comprehension. Using this expert sharing method deepens the knowledge for all children. Literacy is one subject that can be taught across all curriculums. You can have children read or write about science, social studies, art, math, and any other subject. Teachers can use this versatility to get children interested in reading and writing. It seems to me that book clubs are the most affective when all students find the book interesting and challenging.
One new and interesting perspective I have on literacy is due to our class period on technology. Never before have I thought about how my students will have different experiences with technology then I did. It is becoming more and more important as time goes on. The great thing about this is that technology can be used in so many ways to reach a variety of learners. Technologies can even be used to aid students with learning disabilities. I am looking forward to our new illiteracies project as I will have a change to explore these technologies and learn from them.
